ACTIVITIES

 

Following are a list of MSA activities.                      

 

Past Activities

1.

1992 – 2nd World Sumo Championship

Organizer: Japan Sumo Federation, Tokyo, Japan

Malaysia was represented by 17 Rikishi participating in the Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight as well as Open category and Team event.  Mr Tan Yau Kong managed to get 3rd placing in the Middleweight category.

 

2.

1996 – 1st Asia Sumo Championship

Organizer: Japan Sumo Federation, Osaka, Japan

Malaysia was represented by 12 Rikishi participating in the Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight as well as Open category and Team event.  Mr Malek Noor (Malaysia renowned bodybuilder) managed to get 3rd placing in the Middleweight category.

 

3.

1997 – 2nd Asia Sumo Championship

Organizer: Japan Sumo Federation, Osaka, Japan

Malaysia was represented by 12 Rikishi participating in the Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight as well as Open category and Team event.  Mr Tan Yau Kong managed to get 3rd placing in the Middleweight category.

 

4.

1998 – Genting International Sumo Championship

Organizer: Malaysian Sumo Association

Sponsor: Genting Holdings

Participants: Over 30 Rikishi from Mongolia, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia

 

5.

2004 – 8th World Sumo Championship

Organizer: Japan Sumo Federation, Osaka, Japan

Malaysia was represented by 13 Rikishi participating in the Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight as well as Open category and Team event.  Miss Thee Mai Yeen managed to get 3rd placing in the Heavyweight category.

 

6.

2005 – 13th Sumo World Championship

Organizer: Japan Sumo Federation, Osaka, Japan

Malaysia was represented by 13 Rikishi participating in the Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight as well as Open category and Team event.

 

7.

2006 – 14th Sumo World Championship

Organizer: Japan Sumo Federation, Osaka, Japan

Malaysia was represented by 13 Rikishi participating in the Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight as well as Open category and Team event.

 

Current Activities

1.

Sumo Gathering.

Activities include practicing, discussion, and mental buildup.

Place: Shah Alam

Time: Every Saturday 8:00pm – 10:00pm

 

2.

Association Meeting and Get Together.

Place: President’s Office

Time: Every Sunday end of the month.

 

Planned Activities

1.

2007 – MSA is planning to participate in the following tournaments.

 

The World Championship 2007

15th Sumo World Championships & 6th Shinsumo World Championships

8th Junior Sumo World Championships

November 17 -18, 2007 Chiang Mai, Thailand

 

2.

MSA is also planning to participate in the following tournaments.

 

The World Championships 2008 in Rakvere, Estonia

Junior Sumo World Championships / Shinsumo World Championships / Sumo World Championship

 

Kaohsiung World Games 2009

17th – 18th July - Competition date
